New technology has a huge influence in all of our lives. It is rare to find anybody who has not embraced the latest electronic gadgets in some way. Mobile phone ownership increases year on year and even the elderly have found a place for gadgets and gizmos in their lives either for safety reasons or sim ply to stay connected with younger members of the family locally or globally.

The widespread acceptance of new electronic devices has also leaked into other areas that were once the preserve of the expert. Surveillance equipment has not missed out on the benefits of technological advances and as such a new breed of surveillance devices has evolved. These new devices, commonly known as spy gadgets have opened up the world of spy and surveillance equipment to a fresh audience. The phrase spy gadget was not commonly used up until maybe five years ago when a new generation of devices came to the fore. These new spy gadgets have taken the form of spy pens, spy calculators, spy glasses and spy phones to name but a few. These new spy devices have not only been accepted as being useful surveillance tools, but actually as ‘cool’ must-have gadgets with a broad appeal.

The voice recording pen or the video pen have got to be the most popular gadgets that have received a wider acceptance. they can of course be used for fun and amusement, but they of course have a serious side in evidence gathering for the owner/user. The acceptance of new products is largely dependent upon them being disguised as objects that are used and carried everyday. This fact is clearly why pens and wristwatches have been so popular, but as the popularity of these items wanes, new spy gadgets such as GSM listening bugs disguised as USB flash drives or voice recorders that look like car key fobs have come to the fore and you can be sure that it won’t stop there. Technological advancement will ensure that the popularity of surveillance equipment is certainly not set to decline for the foreseeable future, especially now that it has found a whole new audience.
