The classy looking Tissue Box Voice Recorder will blend into many scenarios. In the base inside is concealed a superb voice activated digital audio recording system, powered by a high capacity lithium polymer battery pack, providing the perfect portable long term audio surveillance solution for a variety of situations.

Functional Decorative Tissue Box Holder

The very best surveillance products fit into an environment without alerting any unwanted attention, so in choosing a tissue box holder we have selected something that will fit into many room settings. What is key is to maintain the outward appearance and normal usage to ensure that the surveillance product is accepted as being ‘normal’. In this case all alterations to accommodate the recorder have been made inside, so externally there is nothing to give concern and because the addition of the recorder inside only depletes internal volume slightly, a cube tissue box can still be inserted , meaning the product will present as a normal everyday tissue dispenser.

Sound Activated Recording – Long Battery Life

The microphone has been placed in a very low down position on one of the sides in the stitched effect line, so it is almost impossible to spot, even when you are aware of it’s presence. It is especially sensitive and has a sound pick up radius of at least 8 metres. The sound activated recorder is built into a very compact and shallow enclosure on the magnetic base/door. It is powered by an internal 1100mAh lithium battery pack that is able to keep the recorder powered up in standby mode for up to 152 days and in recording mode can last for up to 144 hours, So, because the system is sound/voice activated then the resulting battery life will be a combination of these figures. In a room where the recorder is activated for a few hours a day, the battery, after a full charge, could last for weeks.

Auto Recording Storage – Large Recording Memory

After the Tissue Box Voice Recorder has been deployed the recording system automatically captures sound in the surrounding environment and when the noise event has finished, stops the recording and then stores it on the internal memory of the device. The actual recording process for each file completes when there is no further sound for one minute. With 288 hours in HQ (High Quality) mode, there is no shortage of storage space, especially when you consider the system only records when there is noise above a certain level in the environment in which it has been placed. The result is a catalogue of files for each recording event up to a maximum of 9999 (may not use full recording storage), which makes it easy to navigate.

Time/Date Referencing – Sensitivity/Quality Settings

When deploying a voice activated recorder for an extended period of time it becomes very important to be able to identify when exactly a particular event took place. After initially setting to the time on your computer (simple on Windows, but instructions supplied for Mac), when a recording is made, the actual time and date is shown in the recorded file name and of course the files are stored in chronological order. Sometimes there is ambient noise in the environment, which can trigger the recording process, so it is important to then take advantage of the sensitivity adjustment setting prior to deployment to ensure that you do not get unwanted recordings of ambient noise. In addition there are two other recording quality settings – XHQ and PCM. These can be used to achieve results with greater audio clarity, albeit we have found as a rule that in most situations they are unnecessary. Be aware that using a higher quality mode with then reduce the resulting storage capacity because XHQ and PCM files require more memory space.

Simple To Deploy And Offload Recordings

As previously mentioned the recorder works away automatically making recordings, albeit it requires manual switching to start/stop the recording process. The Tissue Box Voice Recorder is switched on and off using a pin operated switch located in the side of the recorder enclosure. When the switch is clicked in an LED lights up and flashes for a matter of seconds before going out and this denotes that the recorder is activated. When the pin switch is pressed again the recorder is deactivated, although no LED lights up. Charging the internal battery is simply a matter of connecting the supplied magnetic USB lead to the magnetic port on the side of the recorder enclosure in the base of the tissue box and then connecting to a USB power source (UK USB Mains charger supplied). Using the same USB lead the Tissue Box Voice Recorder can be connected to a computer for offload/playback of the recordings. No specialist software is needed. The listening device uses the normal media player on your Windows or Mac computer to play the audio files.

Is the device silent and discreet in operation?

Yes, the device is a digital operation, so there are no moving parts and it is programmed so that there are no sound alerts that would cause attention in any way.

Are there any lights that would indicate that the device is recording?

No, there are no external lights or other indicators that the device is recording, other than when the device is initially switched on/set to record..

Do the recordings have a time and date stamp?

Yes, each time the device makes a separate sound recording a time/date reference is added to the file name., so when their is no sound the recording stops, then when there is more noise/sound a fresh time/dated file is started.

Will the recorder still record if it is hidden away from view?

The unit is designed so as to be completely discreet when left in view, however if hidden away the recording function will still remain very effective unless it is completely wrapped and buried by sound absorbing objects/materials.

Is it easy to playback the recordings?

Recordings can be played back through computer speakers by plugging into the USB port of a Windows or Mac computer using the supplied connection cable. It’s just like plugging in any other memory storage device such as a USB stick.

Can the voice activation feature be switched off?

No, the Tissue Box Voice Recorder is always set to voice activated recording. There is no straight record option.

Does the device record one big long file with no breaks or does it recorder numerous shorter recording files?

The recorder will record a new file each time the microphone picks up enough sound to start the fresh recording and then ends the file when the sounds, voices, etc. have stopped.

Can I use the Tissue Box Holder to hold a box of tissues?

Yes, the standard cub boxes of tissues can still be accommodated which helps to ensure that the product arouses no suspicion.

You will need the following to get the best out of this equipment:

  • A box of tissues is NOT supplied, however these are readily available from many retail outlets including supermarkets.
  • A computer with speakers attached if wishing to playback recordings through your PC or Laptop or a connector to enable playback on a smartphone
  • A media player on the computer for playback of audio files. It maybe worthwhile downloading a free media player. We use VLC Media Player at Spy Equipment UK
