The device runs exclusively on mains power (when plugged in). Due to its compact dimensions, there is not enough internal space for any backup battery.

What happens to the device’s settings if it’s unplugged and then plugged back into the mains outlet?

The WiFI Double Adapter retains all its previous settings. When reconnected, it will initiate a 5 minute setup phase, which you can simply ignore and your device will then continue to operate with its original setup.
