Remember That Ford Transit ‘Spy Van’? Here’s How It Did!
Last month, we wrote about a 1988 Ford Transit ‘spy van’ that was going under the hammer at an auction centre in Shepshed, Leicestershire.
The van, which was auctioned by Manheim, has now sold for a record-breaking price of £10,300!
During the auction on Monday 22 May, Matthew Davock, head of LCV at Manheim opened the bidding at £5,000.
But the van, which was converted by a specialist company to operate as a covert surveillance vehicle, was bid for and won by Mark Scott of Premier Van Sales.
The vendor of the Ford Transit, James Davis, purchased the van back in 2014 with a plan to resort it and add in new surveillance equipment, including period-correct spy cameras, microphones and other monitoring devices.
The restoration project was established so that James could raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity close to James’ heart.
The entire proceedings of the van went straight to the charity, and, along with other donations, they raised nearly £13,000. Davis said: “The spy van project has been an amazing journey.
“A huge thanks to everyone involved over the last couple of years, and of course to Mark as the winning bidder.”
Fundraising efforts continue, and those who would like to support can do so by visiting James’ Just Giving page.
Spy Equipment UK would like to congratulate the team on raising such a superb amount for the Alzheimer’s Society, and to mark on his winning big for this excellent vehicle!
